Hi!! We have a small suburban flock and want to add 2 new ladies this spring, I’m researching who to add and all websites say the same thing, to add some kind of Orpington bc they do well in backyards. However we started with 2 buffs and 4 sapphire gems and I’m hesitant bc our buffs were so ridiculously loud we had to give them to our friend who lives in the country. This wasn’t just egg song it was stand at the back of the yard and scream until we came outside kind of loud. Currently we have 3 black australorps, a barred rock, and a red mystery bird. The lorps are pretty loud too but not as bad. Since we live in a neighborhood we need birds that are good with confinement, quiet(ish) and friendly with kids. Good layers is a plus too. I like Easter eggers but read they can fly. It would not be safe outside our fence, we have a lot of dogs that get loose all the time from neighbors behind us so something that can’t fly out. I’m driving myself crazy looking online for what might fit our lifestyle! The barred rock is really quiet, I just wanted something new to try. Some pics from earlier in the year, October. It’s frozen and snowy here now so cold hardiness also a must!

I would go with with Americanas (sp), oh and clip the feathers on one wing if you suspect one of them is a wannabe flyer.

Those are some of the ones I had hoped for but read somewhere that they can fly as high as a roof!! But definitely could clip them! Thanks!
