OK, so in good fashion, I like to do everything at once
At some point this year, I would really like to get into raising rabbits for meat, but in order to do that this year, I need to start deciding which rabbit I want and talk to the breeders about getting on their waiting list.
I've looked at different breeds and looked at the breeders in the area. There's also a poultry swap in June that may have some bunnies, but depending on who is selling them.... we'll see. I have had a very positive experience buying from a great breeder for my chickens, and I want just as great experience with the rabbits. It will be more expensive, but--you get what you pay for!
These are the breeds I've found locally that I liked, and I'd love to hear about your experiences with them!
Silver Fox
American Chincilla
American [Blue]
I like to be a part of sustaining and protecting older/rarer breeds, and they're all quite beautiful.
My main goal is meat production, however, I do toy with the idea of getting into showing rabbits (it's always been my favorite thing at the fair) and with tanning hides later down the road to make blankets.
What do you think?
