Hello,

I started that wondeful bantam thread, and that got me thinking.... how about some banties of my own!!! I would want a breed that is cold and heat hardy ( we live in the SF Bay Area ), and broody, as well as nice tempered.

Banty cochins are sweet, broody, and do well in all kinds of weather. They're also pretty easy to find in lots of colors.

My vote goes to cochins. Brahmas and easter eggers are great if you're looking for good layers, and the silkie is a classic favorite. I personally think the mille fleur is the most beautiful if eggs aren't too important, followed by the sebright and japanese.

Lots of options!

Too many indeed. I live in an area where we're only allowed three, but I figure one LF is equal to at least 2 bantams

Hopefully won't have any issues with the chicken police, lol.

I think the best solution to your problem is to build a bigger run!

In my experience, almost all birds will be very sweet if they are hand raised from chicks, but I don't have any experience with fleurs.
