I am just SO happy with this little olive egg! Found this one on the ground in the run so its a little dirty but she'll get the hang of it.
Looks like heavy bloom on one of my Barred Rock eggs today too.

Here's the OE that's laying:

In other news, I thought my Special chicken was going broody. She was in the nest box all day but wasn't egg bound. I finally went to move her off the nest at dusk and the little monster bit me!!

Oddly enough she's acting perfectly normal today.
She may just be building up to it🤔

I certainly hope not. It's not a good time of the year with this heat. Even with all the ventilation, she'd probably cook sitting in the coop nonstop. Honestly, I think she's just special. She's always been a little... different. Not sure I'd trust her with chicks.
Chickens are amazing at regulating themselves. I remember 3 yrs back, the 1 and only time my OG OE Prue went broody, it was a brutal summer (that's when we were hitting 117 with the humidity) I was so worried about her, but she hatched 6 lovely chicks out of 8 eggs. Sansa has 5 more days to go on her first hatch and she's doing amazing, though extremely psycho😂 Most of my broodies always seem to be in the dead of the heat. You never know what the outcome will be with a broody and chicks, I've yet to have a broody harm her chicks, but it does happen.

Of the pullets, I still only have 2 Marans and 1 OE laying. Waiting on the 5 other free loaders.

In other strange news... I found a Barred Rock egg on top of the compost pile. What the heck?? My hens never lay outside of the coop! It's not even in a safe covered place... just wide open. She must have laid it yesterday and I didn't notice until today when I let them out. Odd...
