I think so too! It was right by one of the feeders so I imagined she was just minding her own business and having a snack then.. surprise!

Found a small empty soft shell that the littles were messing with under the roost. Guessing one of the marans. Hopefully still working out the kinks. These started laying so much earlier than my brood last year.

I confirmed who is laying the darker egg! Watched her go into the nest box this morning. (The other one is fake)

@wrathsfarm you were right! They are darkening and looking absolutely beautiful. Obviously, not as dark as yours but I wasn't expecting that since these are just hatchery blue copper marans (I don't see any copper, though) and not your fancy BCM.

The last few days collection alongside one of my Plymouth Barred Rock eggs for comparison.

I'm so happy with them! Now if I can only get the larger pullet to lay in the nest boxes. She keeps laying in the coop bedding and then my dummy hens see her egg and follow suit. (Even though they've been laying consistently in the boxes their whole lives!)

Congrats...that's awesome. They're very pretty. Keep track of those eggs if you can, they may get darker still depending on how many layed.

Well I got home from work and checked to see if I got any new green eggs. Nope. One of my Barred Rocks was in the nest box so I left her to it. I got changed and went back out there about 15-20 min later with my dog to let the girls out to free range.... and had to pull yet another snake off the coop! These snakes are DETERMINED!! It must have been waiting for me to walk away.

Ok so I got off early today (YAY Holiday weekend!) and I found this odd little egg. I have no clue who laid it. It's certainly not green and I only have Olive Eggers left not laying.

Here it is next to a white egg to show color and size. What in the world...it almost looks like it cracked inside the pullet and then mended???

I think it might be one of my marans since they're new layers? And the egg was just a wonky one without the typical color. I only have 1 dark brown small egg in the nest box.

I know Eggers can lay brown but if mine have the correct blue egg gene, would the egg shell be blue but the "paint" be dark brown? In other words, if you crack an olive egg, is the inside shell blue?
