I say depends on the source.... my hatchery birds weren't as friendly. If you have the opportunity to buy local and meet their stock, do that! In my experience the private breeders take more care toward temperament.

My hatchery d'uccles were ok friendly but wanted to sleep in the trees! My other ones don't go 10 feet from me.

I have heard that silkies are great pets! I have not been able to own one yet though.
