A coyote broke in our backyard 5 in the morning and took one chicken until we threw a water bottle at it. It ran away leaving half plucked limping chicken. I need these answers:

1. How do you drive the coyote out of my backyard?

2. How long will it take until the feathers wounds are healed and the feathers all back?

3. What certain foods can I feed it to help it develop faster?

4. What things should I apply to the wound ?

5. Other facts that can help me

1. You don't. Coyotes will come if there is food. Keep your birds locked up in a secure coop and run.
2. The wounds should heal pretty quickly. The feathers may not come back in until a molt.
3. Protein rich foods will aid in healing and feather regrowth. BOSS, low-sodium catfood (in limited quantities), yogurt, eggs, bits of meat from your meals (unsalted), canned tuna, meal worms, etc.
4. Neosporin and/or Blukote.
5. Go check out the Predators and Pests section of the forum. Be aware that it is not an area that you go to for light reading. The folks that go to that section are a hard group of people because they have lost birds and want to prevent it from happening again. They freely talk about methods of trapping and dispatching predators. They don't talk nicely about it either.

Sorry for your problems. Good luck.

CMV gave great advice. The only thing I'd add is, any antiseptic that you have around is fine, as long as it doesn't contain a "caine" drug, such as benzocaine, cetacaine, etc.

Our neighbors lost all but one of theirs to coyotes a couple of days ago. They had been housing the chickens in chicken wire and were shocked to learn that chicken wire won't protect chickens from predators.
