Help me dog people! Dog psychologist needed!

... Stupid and Fatty... Yes there's a story. No, I didn't name them.
They started out with real names, but my husband spent more time at home than I did when my cats were young, and he hates cats. They (of course) learned his name for them instead of mine.
I will say getting reminders from the vet is really funny now. They hesitate before they say the name. "It's time for..... stupid's? Annual check-up?"
Mind you, my husband is nice to my cats, because they are mine. I know everyday that my husband loves me, as I get to cuddle with the result. Luckily the cats don't speak English.

Thank you! She's a blue australorp.
That is hilarious!! I can only imagine the vet's office reactions were/are priceless! :lau :lau :gig
If it makes you feel better, I call Brewster "Piggy Boy" 🤣 he has gained so much weight since he has lived with us. With his brindle coloring, when he lays on his back, feet in the air, he looks like a wild boar on the side of the road.
He has lost most of the weight he gained, but he, like me, will never be svelte again.

:lau How in the world he comfortable like that?! Turned upside down, add a red cape, and he could pass as a super hero flying

Ruby may have been an "only dog" since Dexter, but she had you and the family as her "pack" , and Bruce, to Ruby, is an interloper. He's not part of her pack, and she feels he doesn't belong there.

Probably, in time, if you are a strong pack leader, she will see Bruce is accepted by you and she'll come to accept him.
Females are protective of "their" space, males are protective of their girls. Give it time, let your girl set the pace. Having them together away from her space, a walk in the area or trip to a park will give her a chance to accept him.

Apparently he is comfortable. He sleeps like that most of the time. Super hero he is not. He moves as little as possible.

Thank you, but they've been together for quite some time now. All is good. Feel free to join in, with pictures of your pets.

I am sorry your brother lost his beloved dog this way.

For big/heavy breeds one way to prevent the gastric torsion would be to feed them several times a day, but only small amounts each time. And of course no playing right after the meal, but that is often easier said than done.
Raise up the food bowl

That is so true. I was shocked that Dexter made it to 11. He was on steroids for the last year. He had to be hand fed and watered.
We should have had him put down, I guess, but he still seemed happy. He was still walking with me almost every day. Ruby is in much better condition and is about 20lbs lighter than he was, but you just never know.
Dogs will never let you see how bad they feel, loving us with all their heart.

My bedroom is in the basement of our house. My sweet Gracie is becoming less able or willing to navigate the stairs. I think she can't see well. We have to encourage her and sometimes go to the bottom and come up beside her. I dread the day she just can't do it. I can't carry her up ....
