Scary indeed. My brother lost his well-loved, aging Rott X several years ago to it. They were playing vigorously with him right after eating, and his stomach flipped. These big breeds are kinda prone to it. I hope you enjoy many happy years with your new addition, he is a cutie! ❤

For big/heavy breeds one way to prevent the gastric torsion would be to feed them several times a day, but only small amounts each time. And of course no playing right after the meal, but that is often easier said than done.

Wow, I didn't know gastric torsion was a thing with dogs. My dog is a lab mix and about 65 lbs right now but she still may grow a little since she's around 8 months so this info is good to know.

They said that he hadn't been bred. They kept him intact "just in case".

People can do what they want with their animals (outside abuse) and I won't give my opinion unless they ask for it, but I will say that I never understood keeping an animal intact "just in case". Unless you have a valuable or rare breed, I don't see the point of putting up with potential behavior issues that stem from all those surging hormones..."just in case" you want to breed them later.
I'm glad ruby is starting to get along with him now! They are both so cute.

At 4 years old neutering is not going to make much difference in his behavior. He's still going to mark, seek females, etc. Especially in a bully breed.

I'm so sorry that you have lost your older pups. I have 3 well past life expectancy, I just hold my breath everyday.

I understand that his behavior is what it is but we will still have the surgery.
I hope it will deter his roaming if a female comes into heat.
We do not have close neighbors, but I'm sure that there will be a female in heat somewhere within a few miles.
I also believe that it might discourage dog theft. We generally keep our gates locked but where there is a will...

Thank you for your condolences, it really is hard to lose a beloved pet.

It will certainly keep him from adding to the pupulation problem. (Not a typo.)

How are they getting along? It definitely takes time but by the looks of it maybe not as long.

It took our huskies a whole 2 months to become okay with one another. Now they're inseparable.

They are having fun together. Sweet Ruby is still a little snippy with him, but he is very forgiving. They are running and playing together.
The cat is still a little leery of him. The chickens are still making the "something scary is here" noise.
We had our first vet visit. Everyone told him how cute he was. Lol
He is settling in.

Looks like he's going to be a great fit. ❤ I'm happy for you! Took my older Sheltie waaay longer than that to be comfy with Sammy, but he's a hyperactive little twit and she's an arthritic senior citizen. I think she didn't trust him not to smash into her during his zoomies and I don't blame her. He's like the squirrel on Over the Hedge, lol. She yells at him when he plays with his ball. I'm not sure if she doesn't want him having ANY fun, or if she's saying. "Take that thing outdoors before you break something!"
