Help me figure out what LaFonda is....

Looks like an araucana and if the legs are darker - kinda greenish compared to another breeds then for sure it is what you ordered. It's hard to sex them until they are about 4-6 wks old but I find the cockerals usually have stubby little wings at about 10 days old while the pullets have longer wing feathers.

Araucanas are not the only breed that can have "kinda greenish" legs

Mt Healthy http://www.mthealthy.com/product/ARASR doesn't have Araucanas, they have EEs

Qutoeing there website:

"Easter egg chicken

Araucanas/Ameraucanas

Originally from Chili, in South America they are called the Easter egg fowl. They lay colored eggs: blue, green, pink, and olive drab. These birds vary in size and color, some may have whiskers and others muffs of feathers that cover their ears. Their eggs are reported to have more nutritional value than ordinary eggs. "

I thought EE was just a shorthand way to refer to the Ameraucanas or the Araucanas.

Am I wrong? If so, what is the difference? Thanks.

sorry, i have nothing to say about the breed. I just have to LOL with the name. Is it from the girlfriend in Napolean Dynamite?

yes, that's my boys favorite movie.

regarding Mt Healthy, I guess I'm a little confused. If they put Araucana/Americana as the breed you are ordering, how can they not give you that breed?

I guess I'm not sure of the difference. It doesn't matter because she is my favorite and I think she's beautiful!!

None of the hatcheries even know that Ameraucanas (note the spelling? They can't even get that right!) and Araucanas are 2 totally different breeds of birds- they don't even look alike!

Here is a thread that discusses the differences between the 3 breeds: Easter Eggers, Ameraucanas, and Araucanas: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=128806

It's
good to learn, but futile to try to convince the hatcheries or feed stores of the differences. They don't care.

It's an exercise in frustration.

For what it's worth, I have a lovely little pullet who started off looking just like that and she's blue and buff with a small fuzzy reddish beard. Love her dearly! Her legs turned very willow green.

Edited to add: They will have reddish color in their combs before 8 weeks if they are roos- that's the best you can do unless they have giant feet compared to the others. The feet don't usually look different until 3 or 4 weeks. It's hard to sex them until you see these characteristics unless someone crows!
