Hello,

I got 3, 3 wk old chicks at a local farm a few days ago. I noticed that the roo has a bald spot on his back and wing. It is not red and warm or anything, it's just a little bald and the feathers that are there are kind of straw-like in texture. He does seem to itch at the area a bit, not constant or anything. Ideas? I wiped it off with a damp cloth and it was good but this morning it's weird again. Dry skin? Should I put some vaseline or Green Goo on? All other chicks are fine.

Did he have that when you got him a couple days ago?
If he hadn’t been scratching I would say it could be feathers being pecked from another chick (possible stress from new environment). Could be just his feathers coming in ... but the scratching says parasites to me. If they brought mites home with them then all of the chicks will need to be treated. Along with all the bedding and where you house them. I see your in Colorado it’s winter, adult mites don’t thrive in winter but never say never. Mites are active at night. You can check with a flashlight. I’d suggest that and looking closely (magnifying glass)
Lice could be possible too. Do a little up close and personal investigations. Best wishes
