I am excited to join this forum. I have had chickens for about 10 years. I have the greatest rooster ever. Me and the kiddos hatched him, he's great with everyone, comes when we call him, a gem of a roo. Recently we have had several predator attacks. Lost a few hens but as a group they faired ok. Popeye and the girls looked very ruffled a few times but I never saw any injuries when I checked them over. Anyway I noticed he had a toe with what I guess looks like a toenail falling off. The toenail was black but the rest of his toe looking surprisingly healthy. You could see red flesh where it was coming apart of the toe. His foot looks good otherwise, not hot to the touch, no smell, swelling, drainage or black spots I have had a few cases of the dreaded bumble foot doesn't look like that to me. (Maybe it's denial) I took some pictures. But it was before I cleaned it and it doesn't give an accurate view of it. By the end he wasn't feeling photos and my assistant disappeared. He was favoring it just a little bit it would be easy to miss it. I cleaned it and sprayed it with Vetamicine. I just found it and was looking for some advice. What can I do to help him. I am going to add the photo to give a little bit of an idea. After it was cleaned the toe had no black on it at all.
