Hi All
We are newby chicken wranglers... We started off with a science project chick that wouldn't hatch and then after all of the others hatched and school let out she hatched. We don't know what type of chick Midnight is but we love her. We built a coop and pen and just purchased 4 more so she would have "girlfriends". We purchased 3 Black Austerlops and 1 Ancona from a local farm. They should all be about 7-8 weeks old. When we picked them up they were tiny compared to Midnight! Here is a photo to show how much bigger she is. I have a call into the farm to see if they are bantams (they didn't say so) or if Midnight is just HUGE. I am hoping Midnight is a "she".

Does anyone know what type she is and if she is a she? She is getting gold and orange on her neck and her wings and puffs on her face. Her legs are gray/black.
Thanks... Tracie

Oh no... I can't keep roosters in town... we just love her/him... She let's the kids carry her around and has been our joy for the last 8 weeks. When will i know for sure... when she/he starts crowing? :-(

that's an ee cockerel no waiting necessary on him that red on his wings is a dead giveaway to him being a cockerel

Thank you. We love him a ton but can't have a rooster in-town. Fortunately, we have a friend who has a big farm and says he will take him. So we will have four ladies left, they are 8 weeks. Should I start a few more chicks or is it too late in the season. We live in Colorado.
