Hi, I am new to chickens and inherited 5 just before Christmas. Two of them came without passports and so I would like to know what breeds they could possibly be. We live in Australia.

Both are nearly 12 months old.

Our Rooster - lovely temperament and nice to the hens

Our hen

She is a delight and lays large slightly pointy light brown eggs.

Thanks for any help.

Fiona

ooo I'd better go check those breeds out. Are they available in Australia? Thanks

Ok if Obama is an Australorp can she be on the little side? and have red/orange eyes? She does have a blue/green shimmer to her neck feathers.

Ummm, Obama could be what we call a "black sex-link," abbreviated as BSL. She kinda looks like my Greta, but with less brown. Because a black Australorp is much more solid black; I have two BAs in my flock and neither have brown in their feathers.

Oh yes she does have brown tinge to her feathers that I hadn't really noticed. I will check out photos of that breed then. Thank you.

Ok I am treating her for scaly legs (need advice on this too) but noticed that her legs are pinky/grey with black patches.

My son just loves her.

Yay I was going to guess leghorn for the first one! Silver Macgregor is a great name for a rooster. Sorry can't help with the hen but beautiful birds

Her previous owner told me that Obama is an Australorp x Lohman Brown. She has gained weight and grwon beautiful plumage since the January 2013 photo.
