Good morning BYC! I recently brought home a few 2yr old hens to join my ~9mo buff orpington pullet who is the lone survivor of our first flock (We unfortunately found out the hard way that free ranging without close supervision is not a good idea on our property). These birds came from a family that shows buff orpingtons but also had a mixed flock of "who knows" birds that I was able to choose from. I think I have an idea of what two of them are but the little one has me stumped - I'm also very new to chicken keeping and up until 6 months ago had no idea how many different breeds of chickens there are :) Interested to see what the experts think!

1. two buff orpingtons (molting)

2. ?? possibly an austra white?

3. ?? possibly RIR or similar?

4. ?? OEGB? really not sure. very skittish but inquisitive.

Last photo is of the two eggs we have been getting from the whole group, one cream/off white and one large brown - not sure who is laying them. It's only been a week and a half since we brought them to our coop so I think they are still settling down, but I'm hoping we see some more eggs before winter!

I agree with your guesses, except for one.

OEGB--not Old English Game Bantam, because not a bantam. Standard-sized Old English Games do exist, but they seem to not be common in backyard layer flocks.

I think she's more likely to be a Brown Leghorn (would lay white eggs like all leghorns, no matter what color their feathers are.)

I just looked up Brown Leghorn and I think you nailed it. The white ears!
