Can you guys help me identify the breeds? These are part of a flock I inherited

Helga: She looks like an Ameraucana but I don't know if she is pure. I've never seen colored eggs, just beige, but don't know that it matters

Shakira: I have another like her too with a more yellowish blackish head, but similar body and feathering.

More to come. Sorry these are just cell phone pics, my camera is lost. But Any thoughts with just these would be great!

Cool! Makes sense. There were some silkies and polish in the flock, Shakira could be offspring of other chickens in the flock, I know they did at least two rounds of hatching with a big ol mix of chickens.

How do you tell an EE from a true Ameraucana?

First clue on your bird is her feather color. Ameraucana are only specific feather patterns, and yours is not one of them. Yours is a very typical EE. Beautiful!

Thanks! I did some googling last night and discovered the color pattern thingy. Too bad, she has such a pretty beard.

Too bad she also doesn't even give me easter eggs, unless she isn't laying but I'm pretty sure she is. Just beige. Le sigh. Guess I need to order some more...

First, the color. You girl is a pattern that is very common in EE's. True Ameraucanas only come in black, blue, white, silver, blue wheaten, wheaten, brown-red and buff (and then unaccepted/project colors like splash, lavender, splash wheaten, etc).

Second is type - Ameraucanas have a standard of perfection.

Third is shank color/comb type... if they don't have slate legs, and a TRUE pea comb, it's pretty much a given that they are EE's.

Finally, where did you get them from? A Hatchery - Easter Egger, Backyard Breeder - could be either, Reputable Breeder - True Ameraucanas.
