Hi everyone! I am keeping chickens for an elementary school's garden. I am "the chicken manager", which is a hilarious title! The 10 chicks have spent the past month brooding in my house and they just moved to the coop at the school. I will be taking care of them on weekdays, when I am at work, but volunteers eventually will take over weekend and holiday care. I'll be present on for the first few of every volunteer's visits until the volunteer feels comfortable doing it themselves.

I am creating a checklist for volunteers, a list of things that they have to take care of everyday. It will hang inside the coop for each volunteer to check and make any notes on. Right now the list is pretty short: Make sure the feeders and waterers are full, check for any chickens that seem sick, count to make sure all ten are accounted for. Eventually volunteers will add egg collection to their list.

Is there anything else I'm just not thinking of?! THANKS everyone!

Oh how fun!!!!!:):D how about spot cleaning?

You will also want to do a quick check to make sure there is no holes in the fencing, otherwise you will quickly lose your chickens to predators.

Day to day chicken care is pretty streamlined around here, and you've covered pretty much everything. Once a day I check feed and water (add if necessary, my feeders and waterers hold more than one day's worth), collect eggs and try to put eyes on each bird. I scan the coop and run for anything unusual and that's about it. Cleaning is going to depend on your set up, if you use deep litter, poop boards, etc. But sounds to me you've got what you need!
