Hi. We were butchering our turkey for thanksgiving today and this is what the liver looked like. Does anyone know why it would be green? And should we not eat the turkey? I would appreciate any advice thank you

If that was a chicken I would say Mareks.

What was the gall bladder like? It almost looks either infected or a blocked Bile duct.

I would be more worried about the tumors though..
I have nothing to say really... That is startling.

Turkeys can get Mareks, but it is rare. There appears to be scar tissue there too. Maybe a salmonella infection. I am just guessing.

Me either. I would be looking really hard at the bird and consider throwing it all away.
I'll admit it's my thoughts as well to be on the safe side if it was mine. But I have no specific scientific knowledge to back either decision. The fact that it's a filtering organ, is probably the main issue I have with it. :hmm

It's unfortunate that the liver showed up as this.

I agree with @duluthralphie I've seen lots of pictures like that regarding chickens with Marek's. Definitely a diseased liver with more than one problem going on.

Would I eat that turkey? Ummmmmmm gotta ask yourself, if you were a USDA inspector and looked at this bird and the organs would you pass it for human consumption?

Shame to waste the whole bird though. Maybe pet food?
