Can anyone help me? I have a Easter egg chicken that was egg bound ( which she is no longer) but she wasn't able to walk or stand and it has been just about 2 weeks now but she is still not able to walk or stand but she tries to. She flaps and kicks until she gets herself moved around where she wants to be. But my thing is I am worried about my baby and am wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what to do or what may be wrong with her

Sorry about your hen. Was the egg she laid normal as far as size and the shell? How old is she? Has she laid an egg since? Have you tried giving her some extra calcium (Tums or a human calcium tablet) for a couple of days.

I would be a little suspicious that something else is going on with her. Is she moving both legs is you pick her up to stand, or is one or both paralyzed? There could be a possibility of Mareks disease, or there could be something else putting pressure on the sciatic nerves in the legs. If she had a large egg or even a lash egg stuck higher up, that could cause paralysis.

Is she able to get to food and water? You may be interested in making her a chicken sling to get her upright and in front of food and water for a few hours a day. Here is a good link with pictures and a video:

The egg was normal size but no she hasn't laid since. She is trying to stand on her own but she can't but she is trying to use her wings to balance herself as she tries to stand. She is now finally putting both legs down when I help her to try to stand. Yes she can get to her food and water. I have to take the water out of her cage for a little bit when I first put her back in because if I don't she either ends up in it or spills it because she tries to get up to stand and can't. Now she has a little bit of runny poop now but the thing is she don't act sick or look sick or anything like that. So I'm still confused.

I'm sorry that your hen is not well:hugs
Can you take some stool samples to your vet for testing?
Does she have any swelling or feeling of fluid in the abdomen?

I too, would suspect that she has more going on. She may have a reproductive problem where she has a mass or tumor pressing against a nerve which can cause lameness, but Marek's does come to mind as well.
I would offer supportive care, make sure she is eating a nutritionally balanced poultry feed. Add poultry vitamins that contain a variety of B vitamins a couple of times a week or you can crush 1/2 tablet B-Complex and add that to her feed (2times a week).

Since she is trying to stand, she may benefit from being placed in a sling for a few hours a day (monitored). Here's a couple of examples.

She has taken a turn for the worse again. She is no longer trying to stand and she wants to lay on one side all the time and she is constantly kicking her leg on the side that she isn't laying on. She is eating and drinking very little and she is keeping her beak open most of the time now. She has been like this for almost 3 days. Like I said there isn't a vet close to me that deals in chickens which sucks.

I'm so very sorry about your hen:hugs

If she is getting worse and has been like that for 3days, it's time to consider letting her go. I understand it's a hard decision to make and only you can make it, but sometimes despite our best efforts our sweet girls have a condition or illness that they just cannot overcome and we have to end their suffering.

Yeah I know . We lost one of oldest hens not too long ago she was 9 yrs. old and that was hard on us as losing any of our babies.
