Ok, so I just got a new duck named Nugget. She's a mix of a Mallard and another breed of duck I can't remember. She's about half grown and has most of her feathers. She isn't able to just sit on the water yet. I wasn't able to bring one of her siblings with me home, and my mom won't let me get another one. How can I help my duck not be lonely? Should I put in a few mirrors and stuffed animals? I'm hanging out with her the most I can but she's scared of me and I'm starting school in two weeks. How can I help her not be lonely?

Sadly, if you can't get another duck to keep her company, you should find a home for her that can. :(

Because she's a female, you might be able to get her a chicken (hen) friend, but that's not highly recommended.

Or, you could keep her as a house duck...

Ducks are social flock birds. It is unkind to keep one alone. Even a chicken isn't enough as chickens don't speak duck language. If your parents won't permit a second duckling -- one, but preferably two from the same clutch would be ideal -- it would be best to give Nugget back to the breeder.

There are success stories with lone house ducks thatvare part of a family
But raising a house duck requires ducky diapers and 24/7 attention. You cant leave a house duck alone while out at school or work. Humans have to replace the flock of ducky friends and flocks of ducky friends are around 24/7

Please reconsider your plan to have nugget as a pet. I know that will be painful for you but try and think of it from her perspective.

I definitely agree with above posters. It's cruel to keep a single duck and would be so sad for her. They are flock animals. You're going to be busy with school and she needs company all day long while you are busy. What would be best for her is for you to find a new home where she can be with other ducks and will be well taken care of. These things are hard, but I'm sure you will want to do what's best for her!

My mom won't let her inside, and I live in a small town and no one wants a duck as a pet. I can't return her to her breeder bc they live in another state. They are my family and I was staying there for a couple weeks. I can't return her.... Is there any way she could be friends with my pitbulls? I don't know what to do :(.

I can't imagine her forming a relationship with your pit bulls. They may even kill her if not properly introduced.
Where are you keeping her now?
Can you tell us the state your in? we have a state froum here and you may post on your state forum and find someone close by that might be interested.

AnimeDuck57 Please contact your local chapter of the Humane Society and also the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They may be able to help you with adopting your duckling. Get the contacts through Google

If not, find out who your local wildlife rehab organization is, again try googling. Tell them truthfully you have a duckling that you are unable to care for properly and it needs a new home

What are you feeding your duckling? Where is it living at the moment. Does it have access to water? This little life needs safe, age appropriate accommodation, care and food. It is in great danger until those conditions are met
