help me select some breeds for a suburban yard (kind of long)

Welcome to BYC! I started with chickens over the summer and the people of BYC have been great. Please visit my BYC Page for my blog links that you may find informative or amusing.

Hard to go wrong with birds like easter eggers, buff orpingtons, or gold sex link for eggs. Bantam cochins are cute as are silkies.

to BYC. I have a mixed flock of larger hens and I's have to say if I had to reduce my numbers Lucy and Ethel which are Dominiques would be my keepers. The runner up would be my LF Cochin hens. These would transition to a more urban flock easily. My other favorite is my Cuckoo Maran but that's because she's sort of nutty. Going broody made her that way

I'm also an urban chicken-keeper and have had good results with Buff Orpingtons, Black Australorps, any colored Polish or Wyandottes (currently have a golden-laced that is just gorgeous). Good luck!

Welcome---I've been learning as I go, and am almost ready to get some hens----thanks for posting your questions, as I am learning from the replies too!
