Help me shop for a Kitchenaid

So I ordered one today. Got a white Pro 600 off of Amazon. Price was $350, which included shipping. If I signed up for an Amazon card and used that, I got a $30 credit on my first statement, so that knocked the price down to $320, then I got a $40 cash rebate from Kitchenaid, so Im down to $280. Im happy with that. Now if I can just figure out how to use this thing without killing myself, I think Ill have some fun.

Congrats!

Best start memorizing some recipes fromt he recipe section!

Terrie, theres so many great recipes on that forum that I could never even get thru all of them.

Katy, your old KA will last you forever, especially because you want a new one.

No offense but my wife's a professional baker and she swears by Kitchen Aid.
I didn't read the post soon enough but from what I could see both mixers where the same except for a couple of mixing attachments. Each was 250watts, that's why they were the same price.

I would recommend a bigger model Kitchen Aid. More Watts that's what you look for.

Congrats! Just make sure to read through the recipe manual, it helps. Remember to only use speed 2 (no faster!) for yeast doughs, or any stiff dough, with the dough hook. Add your flour a bit at a time until it starts to not stick to the bottom or the sides anymore.

When you get it, put the whisk on and put it on speed 10, then step back! When DH saw that, I had to promise to unplug it before I take off the splash guard

It is insanely fast.

Mousse and fresh whipped cream, yum!

The artisan and the pro 600 are really quite different

The artisan is a tilt head where the entire motor lifts and tilts to remove the whisk, while the pro 600 is a lift bowl where the crank on the side raises and lowers the bowl to an immovable motor head. The real difference will be felt with something like a dough hook where the machine needs down pressure to keep engaged with the dough. If you are just whipping cream get an artisan, but I have used booth and prefer a bowl lift model.

Curious to see if you got your mixer. Husband just called and said that my new attachments for mine have just arrived. Can't wait to get home and try the shredder for Zucchini that I have waiting. He is also going to get the Spiked Watermelon Sorbet processed in ice cream attachment for dessert tonight! YUM
