Help me something attacked my chickens - kill her or not?

I have a hen who is recovering from a horrible dog bite to her back. They are really very tough creatures. I definitely agree that you need to keep her inside in a dog crate until the wound dries up. If you leave her outside, there is a huge potential for flies to lay eggs in the wound and the other chickens may peck at it.

We had a hen get roughed by a dog. She didn't want to walk, we put the food and water where she could reach. Second day there was blood under her, next day we lost her. I think that the dog broke an egg inside her. She had no visible wound.
Our fault, our chickens were free ranging into the neighbors barn. He moved, now we let them out agai and hope for the best.
Hope your hen recovers!

Regarding the neosporin and the size of the wound...not a problem!! I agree 100% with Speckledhen...cover it well with neosporin. I have covered 4" diameter holes in my chickens (overly aggressive rooster and he was later placed in the oven). Is she moving around better?

DISCLAIMER: If you use a different brand, use the kind WITHOUT pain killer. The pain killers with "caine" in the name (ie, lidocaine) can kill a chicken. Neosporin uses a different kind of pain killer so it is ok, but other brands use -caine's, so just check it first.
