Help me something attacked my chickens - kill her or not?

The H2O2 will help clean it out and kill bacteria better than straight water. However, if you are nervous about using H2O2, you can rinse it with water afterwards.

it's the next day, and i'm wondering if i should clean out her wound more?

today would it be a good idea to rinse it out with water again? more h2o2 (probably not) or should i wait a few days for a scab to form?

my girlfriend says it's too big of a wound for neosporin. look at the pictures - is she right?

Chickens can survive large gaping wounds so give her a chance. Do not be afraid to get a sterilized needle and thread and put a couple of stitches in her if you need to. Even if she cannot walk, that should not be the determining factor whether the lives or dies. I have saved many injured birds that could not walk or even remain upright. Make sure she is kept warm...At least 80*-85* as shocky birds require heat.

Make a fist out of your hand. That is the sized hole that 'bootie-ache' survived. I thought I should put her down, and my husband said that they are resilient. My hen's tail turns to the left but she's fine. We had her in a dark box for about a week to stop/slow down egg production. She needed to put her energies to healing.
We had a cauterizing dust that helped a lot. Heed the warnings about anesthetics though, nothing with a 'caine' on the end. There was a thread on what chickens can feel a while back, apparently they can turn off pain when they need too. Spend some time searching for threads, you will be amazed what chickens have overcome.
Good luck with her, and I hope there are no more dog attacks. But, If they came once for sport, they will come again.

I say neosporin and rest. They really are pretty tough sometimes. Make sure she's eating and drinking. You may have to whip up some scrambled eggs and yogurt if regular food isn't appealing to her.

Best of wishes for you!!

hope shes ok, i use an ointment called corona that i get from central tractor suppy, its lanolin rich and works on everything, even helps feathers grow back AND i use it on myself whenever i get a cut or wound, heals me up fast and its wonderful on the nose when you have a bad cold, after you've rubbed your nose raw, overnight it seems to heal.
this salve is wonderful
