Help me talk a friend out of a goat

Great mechanic, family man but they are always on the go. He wants one goat. Loves cars, racing so I'm telling him a pet goat would love to stand on top of his cars. He doesn't believe me.

Goats are pack animals, if you just have one, it will cry, LOUDLY, if you leave it alone. They love to climb and definitely will climb on cars, they love to be on the highest point they can, so the roof is usually where you find them! They are also escape artists!! Electric fence rarely works with goats, they figure out how to go through it, they can usually squeeze through, under, go over, whatever, most fences and/or gates. Speaking of gates, they can often figure out how to open those too! If there is feed of any kind, they will get into it, goat, dog, cat, chicken, horse, etc. Then they will eat until they make themselves sick. They can bloat, give themselves diarrhea, etc.

I love my goats, but they are definitely high maintenance!

I agree with Vicki, goats are herd animals, and to get only one would be cruel.

A friend of mine had goats. On top of the fact that they will chew up darn near everything, he also got a call from his wife while at work, because the goats were on the roof of his house.

He left work, racing home. Got half way there, thought ... "why do I care if they're on the roof? They're goats! They won't fall off!" and turned around to head back to work. Shortly thereafter, he thought "They're GOATS! They will eat my shingles! They will eat my satelite dish!" and turned around again to race home.

The goats were on the roof for days before they finally came down. He never parked the old pickup next to the garage again!

So ... how much adventure does your friend want?

Ours goats were on our roof, we had to keep making the fence higher and higher to keep them in, they eat/chew on everything (including plants that are poisonous and there's tons), there needs to be more than one or they scream bloody murder, that's just some of the neg. I remember. I rehomed mine to a 66 acre farm.

My male goat died. The man that I bought him from said he was weaned and 3-1/2 months old. So, I am left with the female, who is in love, it appears, with my husband. Every time she sees him, she runs to him as fast as her little feet will carry her , and if he turns his back to her for any reason, she puts her front feet (?) up on his back.
I know she is probably lonely, and I am looking for another companion , male or female, for her.

Besides the fact that goats need other goats, I've posted this before, but my goat used to walk all over our new Corvette; I'm sure that your friend would not want that to happen to something he is working on.

I got 2 goats about a month and a half ago. They LOVE me...a little too much...and they jump on the back door and SCREAM and cry for me.

I try to spend lots of time with them, but I think the more time I spend with them, the more they require. I'm creating little monsters! Plus, they have escaped my fence more times than I can count. I wonder if getting more goats would help...they can keep each other company!

he shouldn't get if , if he isn't getting at least 2! Being on the go is OK, if he has someone taking care of them. They need a pen that is secure and safe!
