This is Cici my 5 week old BR chick. I got her from a feed store that sells female chicks they get from hatcheries. I got two BRs that are the same age that seem to be developing at a similar rate as each other. I have a mixed flock, with 5 other 5 week old chicks as well that I got direct from a hatchery. My 5 others, 2 RIRs, 2 Anconas, and 1 EE, all sexed as female, have grown much faster. Recently, Cici has started to show some pink around the comb area, but her comb remains very yellow. I am new to this and am unsure if this means she is really a he. Can anyone with more experience than me can tell what you think?
Here's a look at the feathers... the tail feathers, like my other BR have been very slow to grow in compared to my other breeds.
Here is a closer look at the comb
This is Jess my other BR for comparison. She also has a very slow growing tail but no pink. Is this characteristic of BRs or did I hit the chick whammy and end up with two roos?
Both have the dark wash on their legs and feet and both had a white spot early on. Cici's white spot was bigger than Jess's. Another thing I'm noticing with my BRs is they are the overseers of the flock, not bossy or mean and very cuddly/friendly. They like snuggle up with their sisters and wrangle the others-up when it's time to go in the coop at night.
