Hello dears !

We are living in Afghanistan a war-torn country, where the 4 decades of war has taken everything from us and left Afghanistan a poor and destabilized country and now it's rebuilding itself. If you know our economy is weak and we are importing and spending country. There are more than millions of eggs which are Imported to Afghanistan. By considering the opportunity we would like to build a farm where we could produce around 10000 eggs daily. The problem we face is lack of information about selecting the right egg laying chickens that could produce throughout the year. We have heard about golden comet, Isa Brown, bovans goldline, Rhode Island hens. But we are confused about these chickens, as they can not be found in Asian countries and are American. So we would like to have your suggestions, what you selecte for us, which hen has the highest production amongst these and lay extra or large eggs? also chose the best dual purpose hens for us. We will appreciate your assistance a lot. Thank you in advance !

Welcome to BYC!

Then choosing them wouldn't help.
What can you get there?
Isa, comet, and bovans are high egg producing hybrids.

Forget about 'dual purpose' if lots of eggs are your goal.
Dual purpose birds don't produce many eggs or meat.
But you can eat any chicken and they all make good stock/stew/soup,
not much meat but still nutritionally satisfying to the body.

It's great that you want to produce lots of egg instead of importing them,
but can you get the lots of good feed needed to produce lots of eggs?

thank you dear !

the problem is that we live in a country where we don't have many options for hens selections, if i were in Europe or USA, it would have been very easy to talk about selection. since as we live in Afghanistan with so limited option, therefore we are thinking economically. I heard Rhode Island hens will lay more than 250 eggs at the first year and then we can sell them as a meat bird. if we go for other chicks they will also lay for the first year but in the second year, they will lay fewer eggs. by looking at this fact we are trying to have the best options. other modern layers cant be found in Afghanistan and we have to import the parents stock from France or Netherland which cost us alot and modern layers won't do better in 2nd year as well and you have to sell them in the market but their meat will not taste good compared to Rhode Island hen.

Regarding feed, we have the plan to make our own feed out of several kinds of cereals, grains that would have protein and enough calcium.

with Regards!

If you can get ISA browns, they are THE best breed for eggs, they are bred specifically to lay a huge amount of eggs! I have ISA browns and they have laid virtually every day, I would say they easily lay 300+ eggs a year and mine are coming up to 3 years old now and although they have slowed a little they still lay well enough. However They would not be the best birds for meat, they are a big enough bird, but just don't have much meat on them.
I also have Plymouth barred rocks who lay fantastically and also have enough meat on them to be classed as a dual purpose bird. They would be a good option also, if you can get them.

Good luck and God Bless you.

For your location/from your selection And to just keep it simple.

Duel :
1) Rhode island
2)golden comet
3) really dont see another one worth putting in duel purpose. (From your list of availability)

Eggs eggs eggs:
1)leghorn
2)Rhode island
3) isa
4) red sex/ red star... same bird.

Meat:
I wouldnt recommend any of these for meat.

Good to hear brother, but can u tell me what's the parent stock of Isa brown ?
I mean which pair of hens we need to breed or mate to lay fertilized eggs and hatch Isa brown chicks ?

Regards

Not such an easy answer! Geneticists works for a long time to create this breed.

But I found this online

Hope it helps.
