Help me troubleshoot my bad hatch please :)

thank You Yinepu

I have never hatched chicken eggs before so it is very new to me! My tortoise eggs are incubated totally opposet from the chicklets! I think for Glendas Eggs I will keep them at the top for lockdown and not move the shelf down. I don't want to start messing with the temp during the incubation and I know what the temp is at the top! Thanks again! I have soooo wanted some Orpingtons and right now 12 look really good at day 10 - 11

Ok so this may sound dumb, but I think that they hatched on days 20/21.

I set the eggs on Saturday morning. One chick pipped on the Wednesday I locked them down and hatched the next day. Most chicks hatched Thursday night and Friday Morning.

I am not sure if I count Saturday or not when I calculate hatch day. If I do, they hatched days 20/21 with one pip on 19 (I then locked down a day late).

If I don't count Saturday, then I locked won on day 18 and my hatch was on days 19/20. This would mean a high temp right?

for chickens (21 days) if you set the eggs on a saturday your hatch date (day 21) would be a saturday

I have had eggs hatch out on day 21, 20 and 19.. all of those are ok
however if most of the chicks hatched out on day 19 and you had a few hatch out on day 18 it would point to your temps being a tad bit too high (or a day or two of a temp spike during hatch)
sometimes we can't avoid temp spikes for a day or two.. and sometimes we can't avoid a day where the temp drops a bit too low

so as I look at it.. so long as you do not have any deformed chicks.. and they are hatching out day 19 & 20 i wouldn't worry about it TOO much

That's pipping on day 18 and hatching on days 19 and 20, which does point to either your temps being a bit high overall, or a few temp spikes. I'd say, check your temperatures, check your thermometer, maybe get one of those digital thermometers that measures max and min temp, get your bator set up empty and monitor temps for a week or so to see what's going on. The heat sinks are a good idea.

Like Yinepu says, if your birds are hatching early, but all healthy, it's not really something you need to worry about too much. But if you've had a bunch of deformed chicks and you think it might be because of high temps, it would be a good idea to get it sorted out before you try hatching again. Good luck with figuring it out!
