Can someone explain the differences in these breeds? How can you tell if you actually have an Ameraucanas? Also, how can hatcheries offer Ameraucanas (by name) but really you are ending up with EEs (is this not very misleading and false advertising)?

Not that it makes a big difference to me as my chickens are purely for hobby and enjoyment but curiosity is getting the better of me tonight.

If you use the search feature, this topic has been discussed extensively, however:

Araucanas are truly rumpless and tufted birds, and lay colored eggs.

Ameraucanas have tails, but have muffs and beards, and lay colored eggs.

EE's are just mutts that carry the colored egg gene. They can be a mix of anything.

(And yes it is very misleading, and false advertising on the hatcheries part)
