We have 5 Pullets, 2 BR's 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte all 17 weeks today, 1 Black Australorp 18 weeks today, and 1 Red Sexlink that is 20 weeks today.

We have 5 eggs in the last 5 days, the only evidence in the laying box is from one of the Barred Rocks, lots of feathers, but the Sexlink is very interested in the laying box and what is going on with it, but none of her feathers are in the box. Do you think the Sexlink is a calm layer, or are all 5 from the 1 BR? I would think it is quite rare that a 16-17 week old pullet would lay 5 eggs in a row. You can see by the picture that 1 egg is substantially larger than the other 4.

Thanks!

My birds NEVER leave feathers in the box- even when going broody. I have hay in there and they make a lovely nest of it in each box, except the one they don't really like (unless all the others are full!)

I have caught them in the act, and caught them lying on others' eggs- My guess is that you have at least 2 laying, possibly 3. Eggs will get progressively bigger, and they won't lay one every single day, so you'll see numbers change.

Which ones squat when you reach to pet them? Which ones have the REDDEST faces and combs? Is anyone ba-GAWK-ing ever? I think those are the ones bringing you presents!

I have a couple that are ninja stealth layers. They go in, shoot out an egg, and beat it- hasty! You may have a couple, too!

The Sexlink and 1 of the BR's have very red combs, the Wyandotte and Australorp pretty much don't have combs at all, the other BR has a smaller pink comb. As far as squatting when pet that would be all of them except the Wyandotte, she is very anti social and wont let anyone pet her. The BR's and Sexlink do have the very raspy BAAAAAAAAAWK.

I'll post an updated pic of them soon for reference.

I read somewhere (maybe another post?) that the Red Sexlink tends to lay earlier than other breeds, but I'm betting that Chooks has it right and you have 2 or more birds just starting to lay.

I have a GSL , she started at 24 weeks. She laid for 16 days in a row, took one day off and is at it again! Her eggs look alot like that

Here are some pics I just took of the "Girls", the first 2 being who I suspect are laying the eggs.

We just ate the eggs, and the large one was a double yoker

, my daughters thought that was pretty cool.

I have a BSL that started laying two weeks ago at the ripe old age of seventeen weeks. In the fourteen days we have gotten an egg from her everyday except one. The last four have been double yolkers, with a few other doubles before that. She is getting a good start on pying for her room and board

My first guess would be your Red Sexlink. She definitely looks like she is ready if she hasn't. My second guess would be your BR but I think by your pictures the eggs came from your Red Sexlink.
