I recently bought two chicks. One a RIR, easy to distinguish and the other I'm not sure. The person at the feed store I bought them at said it was a Norwegian Jaerhon. All the pictures I've looked at look nothing like the bird I have. This bird is mostly black with lighter patches of yellow (barely) on the neck and underside. It has a yellow beak. The feet seem light on the bottom and a little darker on top--not light like the RIR. It has gold on the wings (I don't know if you call it flecks or stripes or bars). Anyone have any thoughts. Also worried it might be a rooster which I can't have and was quite clear about at the store. Anyone raised this breed or raised the darker version so I can determine if this is the breed and sex sold to me. Please help.

I have Jaerhons but don't have any pictures of them when they were chicks. These girls will lay a medium white egg, mine are very fussy were they lay and I don't get an egg everyday from them. They are super sweet chickens, don't eat much, and are on the small side not as small as a bantam. They will sing their egg song for hours before they actually lay an egg they make sure everyone knows that today is the day lol.

I'll try and take a pic and post it tomorrow when it's light. Seem so hard to tell when chicks look so different than adults. Thanks for the replies. Keep helping.

Here are the pictures of this chick I am having trouble identifying. What is it?

Someone mentioned it could be a Black Minorca. Anyone raise this breed so I can determine.

It isn't a Jaerhorn or Minorca, since those have single combs. I can't see its comb well enough to tell what it is, but it looks like either a rose comb or pea comb. If it is a pea comb, it is probably some sort of game breed (old english, american, etc.), gamebird mix, or other pea-combed breed (Cornish, etc.). If a rose comb, I would say Dominique, but the color is wrong. Where did you get it from?

Got it from Osceola Farm and Ranch Supply. The clerk told me it was a Jaerhon. I called them they said maybe a Dominque or a Minorca. I told them I can't figure it out. They don't have any more chicks. I'd sure like to know if I can manage with whatever breed it is (will it get along with the others--have some 8 week old chicks) and do I have the space if it's a bird that needs more room than I have.
