I have a hen who has been brooding since March 26th (as per a note in my diary). She started with only 3 eggs, and two either fell out of the nest or she destroyed them, so she's down to one egg.

I believe today (April 19th) would be day 24.

We had an unexpected temperature drop from temps in the upper 30s-lower 70s down to 23 degrees one night about a week ago. I don't know, I just have a bad feeling. I candled the egg today and it looks full. (I had a terrible experience accidentally breaking an egg last year candling, so after a quick look today I put it back under her), but I didn't see any movement.

What would be your advice on when to remove the egg if it doesn't hatch and/or she doesn't leave the nest on her own? My fear is that I don't want to take the egg away too soon. Do I just wait a few extra days (like into day 27/28) so that I'm sure it won't hatch?

I know that March 26th was the first day I noticed her sitting in the nest. Am I correct in calling this Day 1?

Many thanks in advance!
