silkiechicken: thanks for the photos. that makes me feel a bit better. it's alarming to see large 3-4 inch patches of bare skin!
our weather has been extremely cold here lately. i have put in a few extra layers of cardboard insulation and kept their heat lamp on for longer during the day, but i'm sure my gals are chilly all the time.
she is inside the house in a dog crate right now. very quiet, not eating much, but it looks like the volume of feathers dropping might be decreasing.
thanks for the advice on the blue-kote. i'll take a closer look at the spot to look for bleeding.
barnett_farms: yes, my egg production here in detroit has gone way down. i only have four girls and i either get one egg or none for the last few weeks.
