My chicks are approximately 3 weeks old and have most of their feathers. I have had them in my house since we got them in a sealed off room. In the last few days the smell and the dust has gotten unbearable! I want to move them into the barn so badly today, but it is just below freezing outside. I have 2 brooder lights. Will they be okay if I move them out? The temperature is supposed to finally warm up tomorrow, but I don't want to wait. Of course, I will if I absolutely have to...

I'm in OH as well and this weather has got to go!!! I plan on moving ours to our enclosed porch in about 2 weeks (they're only 5 days old now) with their heat lamps. I figure there will be 24 of them and the weather "should" be warmer by then???? Right?

We have 2 week old ducks in the same closed off room as the chicks and the smell is horrible. We are planning on kicking them to the enclosed porch this weekend...with their heat lamp of course :)

I have brooded 21 pullets and 2 ducks in my barn since i got them with one heat lamp. I live in southern michigan. I have had then almost 3 wks now. All doing great. Actually enlarging their brooder tonight. My barn is pretty draft free and they have been off the cement floor( til tonight)

I don't mean to sound rude, but if they smell, can't you just clean the brooder and open the window? We have ours in the house as well and never have a problem. Granted we have only had as many as 6 at a time...

My chicks are 4 weeks old. They have most of their feathers and their coop is completed! I am ready for them to move out of the house and I to their nice coop with the heat lamp. I am relieved to see so many people say it should be ok. I know they are running out of space in their playpen brooder. And I am ready to move the second group into the playpen.

Not rude :) Our ducks are the one that smell really bad and that's because 30 minutes after we clean the brooder, they get their water all over everything....ducks love their water! We clean it every single day, I change their water 3 x's a day and food 2 x's a day. The chicks aren't too bad....yet. But we do have 26 and they're only 5 days old.:idunno
