HELP MY CHICK IS SICK

Ok so I'm new to hatching but one of the chicks was ready to hatch but was a late chick it had a hole and it was peeping but the membrane hardened and couldn't escape so we helped it out but make some holes and it did the rest but when it came out it looked sick like it was gray and it will lay down and fastly breath then it will flip upside down and start panicking trying to flip it self back up but it can't so we have to help it it doesn't move and his head barely lifts up

How old is he/she? If just a couple of hours old, thats perfectly normal. He is simply learning to hold his head up, gain his strength, find his feet, and rest up from a big day of hatching. Im sure hes fine

Welcome!

I have only experienced hatches under a broody hen so usually do not get to see those first few 'finding it's feet' stages and the first glimpse I get is a fluffy, dry head and beak peeking out from under mumma. I do hope that is all it is and your little one is OK.

I also hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Newly hatched chicks sleep a great deal, and once they are up and running, they can fall sleep standing up/then fall over. Your chick had a difficult hatch which is more exhausting to him, so he may be slower to be active. For new chicks set out a shallow dish for water with clean marbles or pebbles in it, so they won't drown if they fall headfirst into it. Also be sure to show chicks where the food is by tapping on the feeding, and doing the same for water, as their momma would.
