Hey all, how can I fix my chickens foot feather. I think she broke it coming down the ramp and it is bleeding pretty good.

I saw a video online where someone had pulled a blood feather from a chickens behind because it was broken and bleeding. Is this right to do?

How can I stop her from bleeding and fix the broken feather? Thanks all!

First try pressure, it may take a few minutes. Also you can use cornstarch or flour to help it stop. If it won't stop (sometimes blood feathers will work like a straw and bleed a lot) then you can pull it. Use a pair of needle nose pliers or forceps, and grab it at the base near the skin and pull firmly. Then put pressure on the place you pulled it from and it will stop.

Ok. When I went outside to put cornstarch on it, it has stopped bleeding and looks like it dried up. I still put cornstarch on it though. She seems fine now.

Do you all think I should still pull the feather? Thanks so much.

I agree. I have have some feather footed bantams who seem to have a bleeding feather now and then, and all have stopped bleeding before I needed to remove the feather. But it is good to remove it if the bleeding will not stop.
