Hi, I had a Buff Orpington Pullet die 10 days ago, it looked like it straight up fell off of the roost. I was shocked to see it dead, it was our favorite chicken (one that would perch on my daughter's shoulder). After looking around, I chalked it up to chickens frequently dying a sudden unknown death.

I went out to feed and water this morning and I found my Delaware pullet dead by the waterer. Again, I was shocked. Yesterday I went out to try and train my chickens to come when called with some flax seed. This pullet, besides my older Sexlink hen, was one of the most aggressive about it and so excited to win over some seed. My chickens all seem healthy and happy.

I am feeding them a laying crumble, and they always have access to oyster shell. I used to let them roam my fenced yard until my neighbors dog jumped the fence and took off with another pullet. My chickens haven't gotten as much time in the yard since.

Now that I've had two chickens die suddenly within 10 days of each other I'm worried it might be something going around my coop. Can anyone give me their ideas? Is it likely its some sort of disease? Only one of my chickens has runny poop and it is my Araucana pullet. She seems very healthy otherwise and has had runny poop since day one so I didn't really worry about it, but none of the ones that died had that problem. I'm really worried that this will wipe out my whole flock, and I have hatching eggs on their way for my broody hen to set on. :/

Any advice would be sooo appreciated. Thanks so much!

You need to get a necroscopy done on one of your deceased chickens STAT. Disease can wipe out entire flocks in a very short time and put other nearby flocks at risk. I'm so sorry for your birds :( if you google "the chicken chick" blog she has some links to free services to quickly determine cause of death.

It's been in the 90's, I don't think there's algae in the water, although I'm not sure I know how to tell. I'll see about the free necroscopy. Thanks
