This is just what i have done for my birds. I had one that had a respritory in fection so i seperated it from the others, well it started doing better but the rest got it, so i tried the vet rx which was a waste of money and time as they started getting worse, as in moreless just squating and not really moving and you could hear the ratteling in there chest. So this morning when the feed store opened i went in and bought what is called (please for give the miss spelling) "agricillen" and gave all them a good shot of it as in injecting it into them with a needle, and this afternoon i checked on them again and they are NOT 100% yet but they were up moving around acting MUCH better than they were. I will continue with the injections for a couple more days. So in MY OPINION, i would get a good antibiotic and depending on how bad your birds are give it straight to them instead of putting it in there water, unless they are not that bad. But mine were so that they werent really moving and i didnt want to take the chance of them getting worse so i went the fast route of the needle injection. Again this is just what i did and appears to work for me. Good luck!
