Help my duckling won’t open its eye

hi, I hatched out a duckling (just one) under my broody hen two days ago and I wiped both of its eyes with a warm washcloth in a dimly lit room. It can open its right eye but not the left and I’m starting to get a little worried... my friend has been keeping sucks for a while and said that they are supposed to hatch with their eyes open... is that true?

Yes, although possibly something is wrong or the egg goop has sealed its eye closed..

Do you have any Terramycin eye ointment (feed store) or neosporin? After gently wiping the eyes spread a small amount around the outside of the eyes @Jpat had one with goopy eyes when it hatched.

2x Miss Lydia ... GENTLY wipe eye. Rubing may irritate it or cause injury. You could also first gently wipe with a q tip the eye area with saline solution then continue to apply Terramycin eye ointment.
