I have 5 Coturnix. Turns out to be 2 roos, 3 hens. I naturally separated the two boys- they fight constantly. But neither roo likes my one white female. (The other two are "goldens".) The larger male chased her, prevented her from eating, cornering her all day. Whenever she moved, "pow!" He'd attack. So I put her in with the other, smaller male, who I assumed would be happy to have a girl all to himself. He also immediately attacked her. (No it wasn't courting. So I put her back in the larger cage again.

Well, yesterday afternoon I found Marshmallow (the white one) with a very bloody head... the male had attacked her viciously- nearly blinding her in the right eye.

So now I have 3 cages for 5 quail! Seems a bit much to me.

Has anyone heard of "racial prejudice" in quail? Seems like both males prefer the brown girls over the white girl. WHAT CAN I DO?!?

My main quail run is 2 ftW x 4 ftL x 2ft H. Hiding box (all of them LOVE it!), sand box, food and water at all times. Solid bottom. I give them fresh veggies as well as the crumble feed.

I am totally perplexed.

Separate the female away from the male for a few days maybe a week or you can separate the male from the female for a few days. This worked for me when my male was attacking my female quail. I separated the male for a week or so and after that it was as if nothing happened :p btw they were Couturnix quail

I have removed both the injured female ( so she can recover in peace) and the male (let him cool his stubby tail feathers a bit!). Was given a second coop- I will get 6 more females- 4 white and two others. Hopefully my sweet Marshmallow will be able to blend in with a bunch of other white girls. I plan on outting the smaller male in with them and let the bigger male have his golden girls back.

Men!!!! Aaaugh!! Drive me nuts! Lol

She is fine now. I put the bully male in time out by himself for three days, Then put him
Back in with her. She took one look at him, puffed up big and growled at him! LOL! As if to say
"Dont mess with me buster!" He has been very meek and humble ever since! In fact I have gotten
Three eggs from her since then!

Thanks for the help!
