That's a good looking little chick!
I'm sorry I'm quite behind. Has the chick hatched? Is it still moving?

The chick is really fortunate to have you! You've done a really fantastic job!So I was told due to me having made the hole that there would be a good chance the chick that was still in the egg would shrink wrap or be disabledSo I opened it up more around the airsac and made a little hold in the inner memberane where it's beak was so that it could breath and I put it back on the incubator in the hope it may come out by itself the next day nothing but the chick was still alive!!! So I took the chance to give it a fighting chance and tried very carefully to get it out in the hope it would be ok! So I managed to get it almost fully out and while doing so it was moving and chirping away but the borrow of the egg was still attached to its bum by a vein so I did not want to pry any further so out it back in the incubator again to see how it got on and after a few hours it was moving about and had kicked the shell away although it was clear there was something wrong with its legs!! It has splayed legs
However I am determined and because I've helped the chick this far I am not giving up on it just yet! So after some research my mum got creative to help me make a little splint for it we had wanted a video where they used a straw and rubber band but my mum was worried the straw would be sharp and cut its legs so she used a clean cigarette but! Lol sounds odd but seems like a great idea as it's cushioned and so far so good! The chick is standing well and also eating and drinking on its own! Here is a picture of it with its band aid
Great thank you I have horses so have plenty of vet wrap I can use at the stable So I will try this as well, I've been getting the chick out every now and then and we have been practising walking with is brace on as it seems to love jumping in my hands so do so so I make it walk a few steps each time and it's starting to get the hang on it more and more everydayThe chick is really fortunate to have you! If this can help, I just started using the vet wrap/self adhesive type bandage for legs. Someone on BYC mentioned using this. It works the best of anything I've tried since it sticks to itself and not the chicks legs. It's very soft on their legs. You can also re-adjust and tighten it once the chicks legs stay under it better. You may find it better to work with.![]()
That good the chick is progressing! And it's good you have vet wrap as well...lol. I had vet wrap for my sheep for setting broken legs. It never occurred to use it for chicks' legs. I'm really glad someone on BYC mentioned using this. It doesn't require much either. The band aid and other things I tried would move or fall off...lol.Great thank you I have horses so have plenty of vet wrap I can use at the stable So I will try this as well, I've been getting the chick out every now and then and we have been practising walking with is brace on as it seems to love jumping in my hands so do so so I make it walk a few steps each time and it's starting to get the hang on it more and more everyday
