My friend has an account on here, but her intertnet is not working so she asked me to do this post.

A couple of days ago, she noticed blood splattered on her coop. She checked all her chickens and they all seemed fine. This evening, She noticed everyone was pecking this one certain chickens butt, and blood was coming out of her butt. She put her back on the ground then she started squatting, and she sounded like she was straining. They wiped her butt off with a warm rag. Then she examined up her vent with a glove. It felt normal to her. Now she is just straining and she cant get anything out.

What is wrong with her???

Thanks,

Also I have her in a box alone and she is eating and drinking on her own and she is straining her self trying to poo, but nothing is coming out and she is pecking her butt! I have a vet willing to possibly come look her over, but I need all the help I can get from yall of what to do!

That may have begun as prolapse (the cloaca gets pushed out, gets inflamed), then irritation caused the hen to pick at her vent. It began to bleed and attracted other hens to pick at her vent. You did good removing her. Keep her comfortable. Gently dab the area clean with a baby wipes and apply triple antibiotic ointment without any pain killer additive. Preparation H won't do much with that open wound so a triple antibiotic ointment would be best. Get the bird started on penicillin to prevent infection. You will need syringes with needles and Pen G injectible from a feed store. Here are some details about administering Pen G to chickens: https://sites.google.com/a/poultryp...oultry-podiatry#chickens_penicillin_injection

Administer penicillin for 5 days. Give vitamin-electrolyte powder with probiotics for 5 days after last treatment of penicillin. Make sure you keep the bird hydrated and eating.

If you have the opportunity to have a vet look at her, take advantage of it. Good luck. I hope your hen recovers well.

OK I have a vet wanting to come in the morning my family says I can have them over and pay with my money I have been saving up but they also said that I shouldn't do that and the chicken will be better. So do y'all think I should have the vet over tomarow.

Would Duramycin work for the probiotic thing in the water?

No Duramycin is an antibiotic. I think Michael's right. Penicillin is the best thing for that. I would not put any probiotics or electrolytes in water with an antibiotic. Wait til after if it's in the water.

You might want to look on here for someone who makes chicken diapers so she can heal.

What would she need the chicken diapers for?
