Help! My heifer just ate a plastic Wal-Mart bag right in front of my eyes! I was unable to pull it out, it was gone in a second. What should I do? Is this serious? Please, any help works. I'm extremely worried.

My heifers have eaten all sorts of things I didn't want them to eat. They always eat the plastic rope that alfalfa bales are tied with. I vaguely remember a shopping bag a long time ago. Poultry netting. Shade fabric.
Which leads me to my oft-repeated phrase: "Stupid cows."

I used to freak out, too. Now I just say "Stupid cow."

They've lived with no problems at all for a year now, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I know it is not funny, but I swear I have seen it all in some other poor countries I seen lambs, cows goats survive from eatting trash, so I guess your cow will be Ok.

Thank you all! I feel a little bit more relieved now. Do you think I should call my vet in the morning to make sure I know what to look for if something does end up not right?

If it'll make you feel better, go ahead. But it's pretty easy to tell if a cow isn't feeling good. If they don't run over to get food when you go to feed them in the morning, that's a bad sign. If they just stand there with their head hanging down, that could be bad. But if they act like they normally do, don't worry about it.

Do you have males, females, how old?

My vet always told me that when an animal eats something it shouldn't (like that) give it mineral oil...........helps it "slide" out.

From experience, it has worked.

Yes, I have both in various ages. Why?

Just idle curiosity! Mine are two 1-year-olds, with no male around. We want to get milk from them, but, alas, no male. Ours were sort of a save-the-calves-from-the-man-who-killed-their-mothers-by-feeding-them-half-rations-to-save-money kind of thing, so we probably didn't think it through too well! But I'm really looking forward to butter....

Eggs4Sale,
what kind or cross of cattle do you have? Mine are purebred Texas Longhorns so that probably isnt what your looking for, where do you live? I might be able to help you find something.
