Today I went outside and saw Venus chasing Peep around in circles.
They used to be best friends and were always together, but recently Peep had been sick (egg bound) and I took her into the house for a few days to rest (though I still took her outside every day to see her flock so they wouldn't kick her out of the pecking order or whatever chickens do when one of them is missing.)
At first I thought that Peep HAD been kicked out of the pecking order, and Venus was trying to "teach her her place" but then Venus had Peep kind of cornered and then she did the wing shuffle that roosters do when dancing for their hens. Of course, it wasn't super good, but I could tell it was the rooster mating dance because she was shuffling one of her wings to the side and hopping around Peep in circles.
Peep kind of just stared and ran away and Venus ran after her. Now I'm super confused. I know it's super rare for a hen to actually turn into a rooster, but...

1.) how old are your chickens

2.) what breed are they

3.) I have only seen this once and it was with one of my past silkie rooster

If it's actually a hen, it's likely just dominance. Dominant males and females will breed lesser males and females to show they're dominant

Today Venus started chasing Peep and then grabbed the feathers on the top of her head with her beak, like my rooster used to do. I honestly have no idea how to react

Can you post a pic of Venus? How certain are you that Venus is indeed a hen? Has she laid eggs? A hen cannot turn into a rooster as far as I know, but a bird believed to have been a hen can actually have been male all along, so it's been a case of mistaken identity. Venus's behavior sounds male to me.

She's 100% definitely a hen, lol she lays eggs and squats for me and our rooster (before)
