Hi, I've had two hens die in the last three days with no apparent cause of death. Both were found on their nests with their head bent slightly under them, they also seemed flattened and purplish gray when we found them. They were fine the previous day then the next morning they were dead. The first one we found on wednesday then the second we found this morning. I have searched all over and not found anything I think it could be. If anyone has had this happen and know what it is please help. If it's something that my other chickens can get I'd like to stop it asap! Thanks!

If more than one unexplained death happens in short order a necropsy is the best course of action.
Lots of things can cause sudden death. The most common are Lymphoid leukosis, campylobacteriosis, colibacillosis, Marek's and gout.

Ok, thanks. I've already buried them but will do that if there's a next one. Hopefully there won't be! I will look into the illnesses you named, thanks again!
