Help, my new Choclate Orpingtons are infested with lice/mites and I have already lost one. Its Only

Did the breeder offer to replace the bird that died? Seems like since it died just after change of ownership and the bird was infested with both internal and external parasites that would be the right thing to do.

If you WANTED another bird from him/her.

Yes he offered to replace and to cover shipping charges so I did not have to drive up there. I told him I wanted to drive and se the bird before I bring it home. He offered a tour of his farm to ensure me that his other birds are healthy. I am unsure to say the least about this. I thought I took all precautions going with a reputable breeder that was NPIP/AI clean. I have not decided for sure if I want to risk it but these guys were pretty expensive. If I do I will inspect his farm and the replacement roo and not bring it home if there is anything wrong. We do have a building a quarter of a mile down the road that we use for quarantine so that saved us!

Even the best breeder can have infections and parasites that are not obvious until the birds are stressed - for example by moving to a new home. If you want one of his birds than ask him if he will delouse it and start it on coccidia meds before you pick it up. That way you will have a better start with the bird.
