This morning after I got my chickens out of the coop. I noticed one of my hens bleeding from her vent. I washed away the blood which seemed quite a bit and saw no outside wounds. It looked as thou the bleeding has ceased but I am not sure why it happened or if it will happen again or if she is dying. She is only two years old can someone help me with an answer.

this might seem gross.... but when a chicken first starts laying eggs they are usually small and get bigger with time... although her body may not be growing anymore, the egg is still coming out of the same place so inside there might be a little skin pulling and making a little cut... this doesnt happen to every chicken... if you find an egg with a bit of dry blood on it dont worry :) it shouldnt happen again

I have not searched for any eggs inside her. At the moment she is laying in the nesting box, she may be trying to lay.

Thankyou for your reply that makes sense. Because the eggs have been small and she is two years old now and as you said the eggs now maybe will get larger. And if there is a cut inside because of this, it makes sense with all the blood. We also have some younger pullets and they where so scared this morning from the all blood they did not want to leave the roost and go outside

No we don't hatch her eggs. And thankyou for your reply and goodluck. Been watching her closely today, see how she fairs.
