Help my sick hen

Baytril is good, I was looking for something that was 'possibly' available locally. Baytril is very commonly used for reproductive infections.

Thanks! I did find erythromycin at pet smart, so will try that until the Baytril gets here.

TS has tetracycline in the horse/cattle section. It works for chickens too.
I give it to mine with no problem. One pill/day for 4 days. The bird needs something NOW. You can always change over, when your Amoxicillin arrives.

Thanks! I will look at tsc. And thanks for the dosing, too!

She is 18ish months old, has not been laying since she was sick with this about 3 months the ago. Her crop is empty and soft; all I could feel was a little bit of gravel. I irrigated it today and what came back out smelled bad.
Sounds like she's got a sour crop too, which can be a common problem in hens that have reproductive issues.

I would go ahead and begin treating her and get on top of that. Antibiotics can make a sour crop worse. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/

Do keep in mind that Baytril is banned for use in poultry. Since she's not laying eggs and I assume you are not going to process her for meat, then you should be fine.

I tend to agree that she may have a reproductive problem, such as an infection, internal laying/salpingitis, or other. Her crop should be empty and flat when it is empty, especially first thing in the morning. If it is palpable and puffy, doughy or hard, a sour or impacted crop may be possible. Sometimes crop disorders can be from rotting food and bacterial, sometimes they are caused by yeast/fungus. You may want to use both an antibiotic and an antifungal cream orally a couple of times a day.

Some use monistat/miconazole or clotrimazole which is sold at most drugstores to treat fungus/yeast. Medistatin powder which is nystatin can be purchased online for pigeons. Dosage of Baytril 10% liquid is 0.05 ml per pound (0.25 ml for a 5 pound hen) twice a day for 5 days. You can get an infant medicine 1 ml syringe to give tiny dosages at Walmart pharmacy and others.
