Can someone please help me convince her that it's okay for the girls to have fun table scraps?

Everything in moderation right?!

EDIT: Our girls usually get much smaller quantities of veggie scraps, but this was a couple of weeks ago on New Years Day and all the girls were fine 🙃

My chickens are considered "feathered pigs." We HAD a compost pile, but between our neighbor's free range chickens & ours, the pile has been obliterated! We still continue to throw all our table scraps on that spot, and the chickens choose what they want from the "buffet." The chickens are very healthy & happy... and we get the best eggs!

Its totally fine. You are not giving them an exclusively pizza diet right? Haha. Its fine.

As a matter of fact I will take the stance, for fun, that pizza is actually a balacnced chicken super food. Its grain based with phytonutrients, fat, and protein. I also heard all of the best Italian chicken keepers feed almost exclusively pizza 😜

Haha this thread is hilarious. Great thread! I am reading through. So for all of the pizza haters who are saying the chickens will love it but they can’t tell you when they feel bad afterwards, how do you know they feel bad. Maybe pizza makes chickens euphoric. My chickens told me they feel like a million bucj after eating some high end pizza like dominos or little ceasars.

Has anyone ever heard of a scenario like this?

“Did you hear about old Gary’s prize flock of wyandottes? Yep, sad deal. The neighbor got drunk and chunked a pizza over the run fence. Next morning, 43 dead wyandottes. Pizza strikes again.”

I used to give the in-town chickens an occasional pizza because my spare kid worked at Domino's on the closing shift and would bring home burnt or mis-made pizzas.

Too much fat and salt isn't good for them, but a little bit of pizza from time to time is unlikely to do them any harm -- especially if they are free-fed their regular, balanced feed and have access to plenty of other goodies such as forage, vegetables, weeds, etc.

It was never a lot and they never suffered any ill effects. It was always hilarious to see one of the hens snatch off a slice of pepperoni and take off for a game of chicken football with the rest of the flock chasing her instead of pulling off their own pepperoni.

Foraging in human garbage is, after all, probably how chickens ended up being domesticated to begin with. :)
I agree with your answer, but .... what’s a “spare kid”? 😉
