Help! my yard is overrun with ants!!

The ants in my yard have always been bad, but this year they are the worse!!! It is so bad that when my grandchildren came to visit for a week, they wouldn't go outside to play. Is there anyway I can poison the ants without poisoning the chickens. I have 2 buff orpingtons, and two EEs.

The chickens have been free ranging, but I would be happy to keep them in their run for 2 or 3 weeks if needed. I have tried putting corn meal on the ant beds, heard that helped, but the ants just seemed to move.

Yes. Amdro ant bait. Not toxic to birds, HOWEVER.... be smart. Right after the chickens are locked up tonight, then broadcast Amdro around the yard. Overnight the ants will forage and take it back to the ant nest, and you won't have to worry about your chickens eating the bait.
